More Asian Tourists Now Visiting Japan 増えるアジアからの観光客

According to the Japan National Tourist Organization (JNTO), the number of foreign visitors to Japan in 2010 fell short of their expected 10 million.

日本政府観光局によると2010年に日本を訪れた外国人の数は、目標の1,000万人を下回りました。

However, 8.61 million foreigners did visit and those comprised the largest number ever.                    
しかし、861万人が訪れ、これまでで最も多い人数となりました。

By country and region, visitors from Asian countries steadily increased.

国地域別では、アジアの国からの訪問者が確実に増えています。

The most, 2.44 million, came from South Korea.

韓国からが最多で244万人。

China’s 1.41 million visitors was an increase of 40.5% over the previous year.

中国の141万人は、前の年より40.5%の増加です。

However, after last September’s territorial issue over the Senkaku Islands, the number of Chinese tourists decreased since October in comparison to the same month the year before.

しかし、昨年9月の尖閣諸島をめぐる領土問題の後の10月以降は、中国人観光客が前の年の同じ月と比べ減りました。
